Eva Borchorst Mejnertz Elected as New Parliamentary Candidate

Eva Borchorst Mejnertz, the deputy mayor and group chairman for the Social Democrats in Aarhus city council, has been elected as a new parliamentary candidate for the Social Democrats in Silkeborg. The 44-year-old high school teacher secured the nomination after a vote among party members.

The selection process followed the announcement from current Member of Parliament Thomas Jensen from Silkeborg that he would not seek re-election. The competition for the candidacy involved Rune Kristensen, a member of the Silkeborg city council, but Mejnertz ultimately won with 99 votes to Kristensen’s 90.

Viggo Thinggaard, the chairman of the Social Democrats in Silkeborg, described the ballot process as unpleasant and indicated that repair work is needed within the party. Thomas Jensen had endorsed Mejnertz and reportedly made a personal attack on Rune Kristensen, which Thinggaard considered inappropriate.

Jensen has served as a Member of Parliament for the Social Democrats in the West Jutland constituency since November 13, 2007, and has held positions such as transport spokesperson, business spokesperson, and tax spokesperson.
