Denmark’s national ice hockey coach, Mikael Gath, attributed his team’s 7-0 loss to Switzerland in the World Championship semi-final to fatigue following a demanding quarter-final match against Canada and subsequent travel. The coach stated that the team simply “looked tired” after the difficult match against Canada and the media attention which followed.
Gath had canceled Friday’s training session in Stockholm in an attempt to provide the players with as much rest as possible.
According to Gath, the Swiss team had an easy quarter-final match against Austria and appeared very sharp. He admitted that Denmark had “no chance” against the Swiss team.
The coach explained that the team gave their best effort. He estimated the team was at “50 percent” of their potential and Switzerland deserved their luck.
Denmark is scheduled to play against Sweden in the bronze medal match.
