The Danish government’s proposed ban on mobile phones in schools will not be implemented before the summer holidays. The Ministry of Children and Education has stated that preparations for the proposal are underway but will not be completed until after the summer break.
The legislation is now expected to be presented in October, at the start of the new parliamentary year. This delay ensures a thorough and legally sound process, according to Minister for Education Mattias Tesfaye (S).
The government initially announced its proposal for a mobile phone ban in February, coinciding with the presentation of the Welfare Commission’s report.
While the Welfare Commission recommended that parents restrict smartphone and tablet use for children up to 13 years old, the government will not be introducing legislation on parental restrictions. The commission suggested that parents consider providing children with basic phones for calls and texts instead.
