A 92-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his 89-year-old wife, who was found dead in their home in Slagelse in January. The indictment alleges the man killed his wife sometime between December 30th and January 1st, when home care services reported her death.
Prosecutors claim the man suffocated his wife by pressing a pillow over her face and squeezing her neck. He was initially arrested and remanded in custody but later released by the High Court on February 26th, considering his age and the specific circumstances of the case.
The man will undergo a mental examination to determine the appropriate sanction, which could range from a prison sentence to placement in a closed forensic psychiatric ward. Due to the couple’s marital status, the prosecution will seek to deprive the man of his inheritance rights.
The case will be heard in the Court of Næstved, with dates yet to be determined. The man’s lawyer has not yet provided a comment on the charges.
