Denmark Celebrates Successful Ice Hockey World Championship Hosting and Historic Victory

Denmark’s hosting of the Ice Hockey World Championship concluded Thursday evening with a significant milestone: the Danish team’s stunning 2-1 quarter-final victory over Canada in front of a sold-out crowd in Herning.

The championship, co-hosted with Sweden, saw a total of 192,321 spectators attend matches in Herning, surpassing the initial target of 150,000. This figure reflects the strong support and enthusiasm for ice hockey in Denmark.

According to Sport Event Denmark, the event was a celebration of ice hockey, community, and Danish hospitality. World Cup Director Ulrik Larsen expressed pride in the successful hosting, highlighting the positive experience for fans from around the world.

Thirty-two matches were played at the Boxen arena in Herning, including 30 preliminary matches and two quarter-finals.

The remaining medal matches, including Denmark’s semi-final against Switzerland, will be held in Stockholm, Sweden.

Lars Lundov, director of Sport Event Denmark, praised the historic Danish result, the electric atmosphere, and the extensive media coverage. He affirmed that the 2025 Ice Hockey World Championship has solidified Denmark’s reputation as a capable host for international championships.

Denmark previously hosted the men’s Ice Hockey World Championship in 2018 as the sole host, with matches held in both Herning and Copenhagen, selling a total of 353,000 tickets.
