Letters to the Editor: Digital Assessment in Schools, Customer Service Tone, Tax Return Proposals, Parenthood, Waste Sorting, Disability Rights, and Greta Thunberg

Digital assessment in schools is undermining students’ fundamental legal rights by incorrectly marking answers and lowering grades due to errors in digital grading systems. The assessment of student exam papers should be done by human examiners, not flawed digital processes. The Minister for Digitalization needs to intervene and prevent such misuses of digital solutions to ensure fair evaluations.

Customers are experiencing increasingly poor service and impolite interactions with shop employees, highlighting a need for better customer service training. While a polite tone is expected from customers, it should also be reciprocated by cashiers and other store staff. Issues such as unattended cash registers, lack of assistance in finding items, and unemptied bottle return machines contribute to customer frustration.

A proposed tax return from the Red-Green Alliance is satirized as overly simplistic, asking only how much was earned and where the money can be obtained.

Artificial insemination should be reserved for couples to ensure children have the best possible upbringing with two primary caregivers, as parenthood should not be a self-realization project. While artificial insemination is beneficial for infertile couples, using it for single individuals to have children deprives the child of the opportunity to have both parents from the beginning. Prioritizing the child’s well-being over individual desires is essential in parenthood.

The current waste sorting system, which requires sorting into ten categories, is being questioned due to its high costs and practical difficulties, especially for those living in small apartments, the elderly, and the disabled. Questions are being raised about the expenses associated with new garbage cans, trucks, and additional personnel. Concerns are also expressed regarding accessibility for individuals with mobility issues and those living in rural areas.

People with disabilities should be treated as individuals with unique needs, not simply defined by their diagnosis. The system should recognize and address the specific needs of each person instead of applying standard solutions. Continuity of care and trust in the system are essential for improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities.

An open letter to Greta Thunberg suggests ten topics for her consideration, including plastic pollution, anti-Semitism, animal welfare, water pollution, Hamas’s actions, support for Putin, Iranian regime’s actions, whale meat consumption, Hamas’s hostage-taking, and China’s suppression of minorities.
