A fire that broke out at a nursing home in Suldrup, Himmerland, is now under control, according to North Jutland Police. Major extinguishing efforts are still underway at the site.
The fire, which started in the roof construction, prompted the evacuation of all residents and staff. No injuries have been reported. Roofing work involving torch-on roofing felt application had been taking place on the building, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Rebild Municipality, which owns the nursing home housing 31 residents, is working to relocate residents. Approximately 15 to 20 residents will be temporarily rehoused in a closed care center within the municipality. The remaining residents are expected to return to their apartments.
North Jutland Emergency Services initially dispatched fire trucks from Støvring and Aars, with the first alarm sounding at 13:31. Additional support, including extinguishing vehicles from Nibe and Aalborg, was later called in as the roof became fully engulfed. It is estimated that a third of the center will be destroyed by the fire.
