The Alternative Party Leader States Climate Efforts Have Lost Momentum Ten Years After Paris Agreement

The leader of The Alternative party, Franciska Rosenkilde, delivered a somber assessment of the Paris Agreement’s impact, stating that climate action has faltered in the decade since its inception. Speaking at Folkemødet (The People’s Meeting), Rosenkilde lamented the lack of tangible progress despite initial optimism surrounding the agreement.

Rosenkilde expressed disappointment that the initial “green ties and big promises” of ministers have not translated into meaningful action. She believes the Paris Agreement has “died a quiet death” due to climate hesitation and political failure.

The UN’s annual climate report in May indicated a high likelihood of global warming exceeding 1.5 degrees Celsius between 2025 and 2029. This target was a cornerstone of the Paris Agreement.

Rosenkilde emphasized the growing proximity of the climate crisis. She called for an alternative to the government’s low CO2 taxes and advocated for “genuine climate rearmament.”

Rosenkilde proposed increased investments in green energy and a reduction in animal production within agriculture. She also stressed the importance of making sustainable living more affordable, ensuring that organic products are cheaper than conventional alternatives.

Franciska Rosenkilde’s speech was the concluding party leader address at Folkemødet.
