Kristoffer Wichmann Reflects on His Brief Tenure as AaB Head Coach

Kristoffer Wichmann’s brief 33-day stint as head coach of AaB has come to an end following the team’s relegation to the 1st division. Despite the disappointing outcome, Wichmann expresses no regrets and emphasizes his pride and gratitude for the opportunity in an open letter to the club’s fans.

Wichmann acknowledges the difficult circumstances he inherited upon returning to AaB, but he maintains that he approached the role with unwavering commitment. He states that being offered the head coach position was a dream come true, allowing him to follow in the footsteps of legendary figures at the club.

In his letter, Wichmann highlights the importance of AaB’s fundamental values, traditions, and history, asserting that they are worth fighting for unconditionally. He also praises the skilled and dedicated individuals within the club who share the passion and pain of the North Jutland community.

While Wichmann does not directly address the recent chaos surrounding the club, including the firing of sporting director James Gow, the resignation of chairman Jan Peters, and the withdrawal of the German ownership group Sports Strategy Excellence 22 from daily operations, he suggests a potential misalignment with his superiors. He emphasizes the importance of standing firm for the club’s 140-year cultural heritage and future aspirations.

Wichmann believes that AaB belongs at the top of Danish football and expresses hope that his replacement will successfully lead the club back to professionalism, credibility, community, and passion. He had a clear plan for the club’s future and is confident that it could have been rebuilt with the team.

Currently, AaB is without a sporting director and head coach. Jesper Brøchner Thing has been nominated as the new chairman and will be up for election at an upcoming extraordinary general meeting.
