A 31-year-old Iraqi man has been remanded in custody in Copenhagen, Denmark, for his alleged involvement in three attempted murders. According to prosecutor Alexander Scheel, the man is suspected of recruiting young Swedish individuals to carry out the crimes.
The man, who was presented in Copenhagen City Court on Friday, will be detained until July 9th while the investigation continues. He is accused of being complicit in attacks, including an attempt to kill Comanches motorcycle club members in Brøndby in the spring of 2024. No one was injured in that particular incident.
The suspect was apprehended in the United Arab Emirates on September 7, 2024, and extradited to Denmark on Thursday. He denies the charges against him and declined to comment in court. A name ban is in place, preventing further identification of the man.
According to reports, the 31-year-old is believed to be linked to a network led by Swedish gang leader Ismail Abdo, also known as “Strawberry.” Several individuals have already been convicted in connection with the three attempted murder cases, including two Swedish teenage boys.
The court hearing on Friday was held behind closed doors, limiting access to the evidence against the man. However, it has been previously reported that encrypted platforms like Signal and Telegram were used to recruit young Swedish criminals. It remains unclear whether messages from these platforms are being used as evidence in this specific case.
Three individuals currently in prison, two convicted and one charged, were present at the hearing due to the connections between their cases and the charges against the 31-year-old man. Among them was a 22-year-old man also accused of recruiting young people.
Two of the attempted murders relate to the attacks targeting Comanches rockers in Brøndby. The third incident involves a Swedish teenage boy who was apprehended at Copenhagen Central Station before acquiring any weapons.
