Man Sentenced to Prison for Manslaughter and Expelled from Denmark

A 35-year-old man, Milad Sadiqi, has been sentenced to six years in prison for manslaughter and expulsion from Denmark for life following a fatal traffic accident last spring. The verdict, delivered at the Court in Herning, also disqualifies him from driving.

The fatal accident occurred on April 24 of last year on Vejlevej near Nørre Snede. Sadiqi was found guilty of driving at 111 kilometers per hour in a 90-kilometer-per-hour zone, overtaking a van in a prohibited area, and crashing into a 55-year-old woman.

The prosecution had argued for a seven-year sentence, citing Sadiqi’s prior convictions for violent crime. The defense attorney, Alexander Nyborg Christensen, argued for a lesser sentence of 4.5 to 5 years and has already indicated that his client will appeal the sentence to the High Court, seeking acquittal on the manslaughter charge.

Sadiqi claimed the woman suddenly changed lanes, causing the collision, but the court rejected this explanation based on the vehicle inspector’s statement and witness testimonies indicating the accident occurred in the woman’s lane. The victim was a 55-year-old mother of two.
