A pelican that escaped from Odense Zoo on Thursday has been successfully captured and returned to the zoo. The bird was caught in Korup on Thursday evening, with four zoo employees involved in the operation.

The capture took a couple of hours, with the pelican finally secured in a net around 9:30 PM after it flew down from a rooftop into a hedge, according to zoologist Nina Collatz Christensen.

After the pelican was caught, it was transported back to Odense Zoo, where a zookeeper conducted a health check to ensure its well-being.

Initially, the zoo believed two pelicans had escaped due to zookeepers observing two birds in the sky and a citizen reporting seeing two pelicans. The zoo later discovered that only one pelican had escaped through a hole in the enclosure. All other pelicans were accounted for within the zoo. The zoo expressed relief that all the birds were now safely back where they belonged.
