A 57-year-old man has been remanded in custody in absentia until June 18 for allegedly stabbing his 54-year-old female partner in Stenvad on Djursland Wednesday morning. East Jutland Police reported the incident on social media, stating the man will be held in a psychiatric ward.
The preliminary hearing at Randers Court revealed the man denies the charges of attempted murder and, alternatively, gross violence. He is accused of stabbing the woman in the stomach with a kitchen knife around 11:11 AM.
Defense attorney Elin Andersen told Randers Amtsavis that the judge only found grounds to imprison the man for gross violence. The defense attorney had not yet received the man’s explanation of the incident.
The woman was hospitalized for treatment and was reported to be out of danger Wednesday. The judge has ordered a name ban to protect the accused, and the preliminary hearing was held behind closed doors. The man did not appeal the ruling and declined to explain himself in court, according to East Jutland Police.
