Man Sentenced for Illegal Puppy Trade and Money Laundering

A 57-year-old man has been sentenced to eight months in prison for commercially trading 103 puppies without the required permits and for money laundering. The Court in Glostrup delivered the verdict on Thursday, according to its website.

The court found that the man illegally imported 80 puppies, primarily Maltese, from Poland without proper import documentation or rabies vaccinations. He sold these puppies for approximately 1.6 million kroner.

In addition to the illegal dog sales, the man was also convicted of money laundering, involving a 64-year-old woman. The man transferred proceeds from the puppy sales into the woman’s account to conceal the origin of the money.

While the court did not convict the woman of money laundering, she was found guilty of receiving stolen goods and sentenced to three months in prison. Neither the man from Ishøj nor the woman from Greve were present in court. Their attorneys sought acquittal.

Lisbeth Jürgensen, a special prosecutor, highlighted the case’s extensive nature, noting the judgment’s 180-page length. She emphasized the aim to prevent illegal animal imports from being profitable and expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision. According to the police press release, both sentences are unconditional. The case was investigated by the regional animal welfare unit at Midt- og Vestsjællands Politi.
