The Danish government has condemned the murder of two employees at the Israeli embassy in Washington D.C. and is prepared to increase security measures if deemed necessary.
Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen expressed his condemnation of the shooting and conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims and to Israel. He emphasized that such an act of violence should not occur and characterized it as an expression of rising anti-Semitism observed globally, including in Denmark.
While security around Jewish communities in Denmark and the Israeli embassy in Copenhagen is already high, Rasmussen indicated that the government is open to implementing further measures if required. He stated that the government maintains a close dialogue with both the Jewish Community and the Israeli embassy and is prepared to take additional steps to ensure their safety.
In a separate matter, the Israeli ambassador was summoned to a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday morning to address an incident in which the Israeli military fired warning shots at a group of foreign diplomats in Jenin. This meeting also served as an opportunity to discuss the adequacy of security levels in Denmark, adding complexity to the situation.
