The Danish government is proposing a new criminal reform focused on increasing penalties for severe violent crimes and expanding the nation’s prison capacity. The proposal, unveiled at Vestre Fængsel in Copenhagen, aims to address serious offenses against individuals with stricter consequences.
A key element of the reform is a plan to double the punishment for gross and particularly gross violence.
Furthermore, the government intends to significantly increase the capacity of prisons across the country by 2036.
“This criminal reform ensures that serious dangerous crimes against persons are met with harsher and more noticeable consequences than they do today,” stated Minister of Justice Peter Hummelgaard (S) during a press conference.
