A 50-year-old man killed his 42-year-old wife in their Allerød home on Wednesday evening before taking his own life with a pistol. The North Zealand Police are investigating the tragic incident, which has left behind two children.

Police confirmed on Thursday that the man was a member of the Home Guard, and are investigating possible ties to a shooting association. Authorities are looking into the origin of the firearm and whether it was connected to the man’s Home Guard affiliation.

The incident occurred on Statenevej in Allerød, with police receiving a report around 10 p.m. Wednesday. Initially, police investigated a suspicious matter, deploying investigators and forensic technicians to the scene. Technical investigations and forensic examinations led to the discovery of the sequence of events.

The couple’s two children are now under the care of social authorities and the wife’s family. Police have not released any information regarding a possible motive.

This case marks the fourth reported instance of partner homicide in Denmark this year, according to recent data presented to the Folketing’s Legal Affairs Committee.
