An 81-year-old cyclist died in a traffic accident on Ordrupvej between Viborg and Ørum on Thursday morning. Midt- and Vestjyllands Politi (Mid and West Jutland Police) confirmed the fatality.

The accident occurred on Hovedvej 16 (Highway 16) where the speed limit is 80 kilometers per hour. The cyclist was struck by a car while attempting to cross the road.

According to Simon Stage, duty officer at Midt- and Vestjyllands Politi, the driver was unable to avoid hitting the 81-year-old. Police state there is currently no evidence suggesting the driver was speeding.

Authorities received the accident report shortly before 11 a.m., prompting a response from police and rescue services, including a medical helicopter. The road was temporarily closed in both directions to allow a car inspector to investigate and take measurements at the scene.

The main road reopened to traffic at approximately 1 p.m. Police are awaiting the results of the car inspector’s report to determine the precise cause of the accident.
