The construction of the New North Zealand Hospital is facing a budget increase of one billion kroner and a six-month delay in its opening. The Business Committee in Region Hovedstaden has been informed of these issues, according to a press release from the region.
This is not the first time the budget has been increased, with the total cost now approaching nine billion kroner. The rising expenses are attributed to price increases in the construction market and rising wages, according to Region Hovedstaden.
The project has faced prior criticism. In November 2023, the National Auditors criticized Region Hovedstaden for under-budgeting the construction when it began in 2019. It was also found that the region had repeatedly expanded the budget, which originally had a financial framework of 5.3 billion kroner.
