Falling Poll Numbers Trouble Danish Foreign Minister’s Party

A recent Verian poll indicates a significant decline in support for Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen’s Moderates party. The poll, conducted for Berlingske, reveals that only three percent of Danish voters would support the party if an election were held tomorrow.

This represents the party’s lowest polling numbers during the current parliamentary term, a sharp contrast to the 9.3 percent of votes and 16 seats secured in the 2022 election. Internal issues have led to the departure of several members, and the poll suggests the party would only secure five seats if an election occurred now.

The current poll indicates that the coalition government would win 34% of the votes, which translates to approximately 61 seats.

Rune Stubager, a professor of political science at Aarhus University, suggests that Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen’s prominence in foreign policy may be overshadowing Foreign Minister Rasmussen, thereby undermining his influence.

Stubager advises against writing off the Foreign Minister and his party, while acknowledging that the Modarates party most likely won’t obtain the same results as in 2022, he suggest that there’s still room for a positive movement forward.
