Several Danish mayors are criticizing the lack of clear national guidelines for municipal crisis management, expressing concerns about inconsistent responses and citizen uncertainty. The criticism is directed towards the Danish Minister for Emergency Management, Torsten Schack Pedersen.
Johannes Lundsfryd, the mayor of Middelfart and chairman of the Climate and Environment Committee in the Association of Municipalities in Denmark (KL), stated that the lack of leadership is creating anxiety and uncertainty among citizens. He emphasized the need for a concrete plan to ensure a unified approach across all municipalities.
According to Lundsfryd, KL has repeatedly informed the minister about the challenges municipalities face regarding local emergency preparedness.
The absence of a national plan could lead to unequal treatment of citizens during a crisis, as emergency preparedness varies between municipalities.
