Sikandar Siddique runs for Copenhagen municipal election for Frie Grønne

Sikandar Siddique, co-founder and prominent figure of the Frie Grønne (Free Greens) party, is set to participate in the upcoming municipal elections in Copenhagen. This marks the party’s inaugural entry into the municipal election arena since its establishment in 2020.

Siddique expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I am happy and proud that the board believes that I will be an asset to Frie Grønne in Copenhagen…I can’t say no to the opportunity to make an important political impact on my own hometown.” His decision to run necessitates a relocation back to Copenhagen to meet the eligibility requirements for the municipality.

Sikandar Siddique’s political journey includes a previous term on the Copenhagen City Council, where he was elected as a representative of the Social Democrats in 2005 at the age of 19. His career also encompasses a period as a parliamentary candidate for Alternativet (The Alternative), securing a seat in the 2019 parliamentary election with a substantial 2,154 votes.

Frie Grønne, despite gathering sufficient voter declarations for the 2022 parliamentary election, narrowly missed securing representation with 0.9 percent of the votes. The party’s foundation is credited to Sikandar Siddique and Uffe Elbæk, the latter being the founder of Alternativet in 2013.
