Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen launched a strong attack on the blue opposition during the closing debate in the Danish Parliament, questioning their unity and policy positions. The debate, which lasted over 16 hours, saw Frederiksen challenge the “blue gathering” of the Conservatives, Liberal Alliance, Denmark Democrats, and Danish People’s Party, casting doubt on their ability to present a united front.
Frederiksen criticized the opposition for lacking a clear prime ministerial candidate and for failing to articulate a coherent policy platform. She questioned the substance behind their unity, suggesting their attempts at agreement resembled “Alone in the Wilderness,” highlighting a lack of common ground.
The Prime Minister also addressed criticism regarding an increase in Muslim immigration since she took office in 2019. Frederiksen countered by stating that while overall migration to Europe has increased, fewer migrants and refugees are choosing Denmark, attributing this to the government’s tightened immigration policies. She further clarified that the recent increase in immigration is primarily due to students and foreign labor, not asylum seekers, a shift from previous years when the bourgeois parties were in power.
The blue opposition had attempted to highlight disagreements among the left-wing parties and emphasize their own unity. However, Frederiksen turned the tables, suggesting the opposition’s unity was superficial and lacked a solid foundation.
