Three individuals have been arrested and charged in connection with a series of church burglaries and thefts across Jutland and Funen, according to a press release from Southeast Jutland Police. The arrests are the result of an extensive investigation that culminated in a coordinated operation on Monday.
Two men, both 37 years old and from Kolding, along with a 35-year-old woman from Fredericia, are facing charges. One of the men and the woman are accused of burglarizing 23 churches, while the other man is charged with involvement in six of the burglaries.
In addition, a 36-year-old woman has been charged with receiving stolen goods after allegedly purchasing furniture that originated from the church burglaries.
The thefts primarily involved chairs, though police have not specified the types of chairs that were stolen. The burglaries occurred in various locations, including Vamdrup, Brande, Hobro, and Søndersø.
The police operation on Monday involved searching multiple addresses in the Kolding and Fredericia areas. These searches led to the discovery of stolen items from various churches, which then led investigators to the 36-year-old woman.
The arrested individuals are scheduled to appear in Kolding Court on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.
