Copenhagen Airport reported a five percent increase in passenger traffic in May, with almost 2.9 million travelers passing through its terminals. This growth is partly attributed to a significant rise in transit passengers, solidifying the airport’s position as a major Northern European hub.
The number of passengers using Copenhagen Airport as a transit point reached 650,000 in May, a 23 percent increase compared to the same month last year.
Peter Krogsgaard, Commercial Director at Copenhagen Airport, expressed satisfaction with the development, noting that more than one in five travelers are transferring through Copenhagen. He attributed this to SAS concentrating a large portion of its traffic in Copenhagen, making it their global hub.
Nine out of ten transfer passengers travel via SAS flights, originating from locations including Norway, Sweden, the USA, Germany, and other parts of Denmark.
Looking ahead to the peak summer travel season, the airport anticipates up to 9.5 million passengers over the next three months. While preparations have been made to accommodate the influx, travelers are advised to expect potential waiting times during peak periods.
To ensure a smooth travel experience, the airport recommends arriving two hours before departure for Schengen area destinations and three hours for destinations outside the Schengen area.
