The Danish Foreign Minister has summoned the Israeli ambassador to Denmark after Israeli forces fired warning shots near a group of foreign diplomats visiting Jenin in the West Bank. Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen expressed strong condemnation, calling the incident “completely unacceptable.”
The incident occurred when the group of diplomats, which included the Danish Head of Representation in Ramallah, allegedly deviated from their planned route. According to the Israeli military, soldiers fired warning shots to prompt the group to leave the unauthorized area.
Recordings from the scene show diplomats and journalists taking cover amidst the sound of gunfire. Despite the alarming nature of the situation, there were no reports of injuries.
Several countries have voiced their criticism of the event. The foreign ministries of Spain, Italy, Egypt, Germany, Turkey, Ireland, and France, all of whom had diplomats present, have condemned the Israeli military’s actions. Minister Løkke has requested an official explanation from Israel regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident.
