Alm. Brand Group is urging its customers to take precautionary measures to protect their homes and belongings as the first summer day is expected to bring heavy rain, thunderstorms, and potentially cloudbursts. The insurance company has sent text messages to customers offering advice on how to mitigate potential damage.
The warning follows forecasts from TV 2 Vejret about the risk of severe weather on Sunday, and the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) has stated that local cloudbursts cannot be ruled out. DMI defines a cloudburst as 15 millimeters of rain within one hour, and the forecast includes the possibility of hail and thunder.
Jan Graversgaard, Director of Building and Housing at Alm. Brand Group, advises customers to inspect their properties thoroughly. “Make sure that gutters and downpipes are cleaned, and lift particularly invaluable belongings up from the basement floor so that they do not risk water damage if the accident happens,” he stated.
Graversgaard also highlighted the high drought index in East Jutland, which could exacerbate the situation. The dry ground may not absorb rainwater effectively, leading to surface water accumulation and potential flooding in homes and basements.
In addition to these measures, Alm. Brand Group recommends securing trampolines, bringing in barbecues, garden furniture, and garden plants, and lowering flagpoles to prevent damage from strong winds and potential storms.
