First Homeowners Receive Information for Final 2022 Property Assessment

The Danish Valuation Agency has begun sending information to homeowners that will be used to finalize property assessments for 2022. This marks a crucial step in the process of determining property taxes and allowances.

Once the final 2022 assessments are completed, property taxes and tax allowances for 2024 will be recalculated and adjusted retrospectively. This may result in some homeowners receiving refunds or having to make additional payments.

Homeowners who receive the declaration for the 2022 assessment should carefully review the provided information and have four weeks to submit any objections regarding potential errors or omissions. After this period, the Danish Valuation Agency will issue the final assessment.

The Danish Valuation Agency is initially sending declarations to a smaller group of homeowners to ensure the process runs smoothly before wider distribution leading up to the summer. According to Anne-Sofie Jensen, director of the agency, this phased approach is designed to identify and resolve any issues before mass mailings begin.

The declaration provides an overview of the data the Danish Valuation Agency will use to determine the final assessment. Homeowners can generally expect to receive their final 2022 assessment within ten weeks of receiving the declaration, although this timeframe may be extended if an objection is filed.

Those who disagree with the final assessment have 90 days to appeal the decision. In 2025, property taxes will be based on a preliminary 2024 assessment. After the final 2022 assessments are issued, a final 2024 assessment, projecting the 2022 assessment, will be provided, leading to a retrospective adjustment of property tax for 2025.
