Alexander Zorniger Appointed as New OB Head Coach

Alexander Zorniger has been appointed as the new head coach of OB, following their promotion to the Superliga. The 57-year-old German coach replaces Søren Krogh, who successfully led the team to the top tier this season.

Zorniger, known for his previous role as coach of Brøndby, where he nearly secured a Danish championship and won a cup title, has signed a three-year contract with OB. He will be reunited with sporting director Troels Bech, who previously held a similar position at Brøndby.

The club acknowledged Krogh’s contributions, particularly in securing their return to the Superliga. “It is never a good day when you have to stop working with a coach – and we have a lot to thank Søren Krogh for,” stated Troels Bech.

Zorniger’s recent coaching experience includes a two-year stint with German club Greuther Fürth, which ended in October of the previous year. He will be joined by assistant coaches Tamás Bódog and Jurek Rohrberg.

The new coaching staff will commence their duties on June 14, when the team reconvenes after the summer break. OB’s sporting director highlighted Zorniger’s clear playing style as a key factor in his appointment, emphasizing the need for a “gear shift” to ensure the team’s competitiveness in the Superliga. The club also aims to strengthen the team in all positions during the upcoming season.
