HØJ Håndbold has signed Swedish goalkeeper Martina Thörn to a two-year contract. The move comes as the club prepares for its inaugural season in the top leagues for both its women’s and men’s teams.
Thörn, 34, joins HØJ after most recently playing for København Håndbold, where she reached the DM semi-finals. Her departure from the Copenhagen team was prompted by the club’s financial restructuring.
Thörn is familiar with HØJ’s head coach, Kristian Kristensen, having previously worked with him at FCM Håndbold. She expressed her excitement about joining HØJ, citing the club’s ambitious project and the talented group of players assembled for the upcoming season.
Thörn’s arrival is particularly timely as HØJ’s goalkeeper, Natasja Clausen, sustained a knee injury during warm-up for the penultimate league match last season. This injury compelled HØJ and coach Kristensen to seek a replacement.
Kristensen praised Thörn’s passion and extensive experience, highlighting her time with the Swedish national team and several prominent Danish clubs. He emphasized that Thörn’s addition completes the goalkeeper trio and enhances the team’s stability.
Thörn brings a wealth of experience to HØJ, including a gold medal win with Odense Håndbold and 30 appearances for the Swedish national team.
In addition to Thörn, HØJ has bolstered its roster with Mia Rej, Emma Navne, Filippa Nedovic, and Emily Sando in preparation for their first season in the Women’s League.
