The Danish Netflix miniseries “The Reserve,” centered on the affluent environment north of Copenhagen, has garnered international attention after topping Netflix’s list of non-English language series with over 10.3 million views. The series, its setting, and the lavish homes featured have sparked considerable discussion in Danish media and on social media platforms. Viewers are particularly curious about the locations of the grandiose houses showcased in the drama.
The couple Katarina and Rasmus Hoffmann’s home is portrayed as Ordrupgaard museum located in Charlottenlund, at least for exterior shots. Searches for “Ordrupgaard” have increased significantly since the series’ premiere, however interior scenes of the Hoffmann family home are filmed at the Danish Shipowners’ Association’s headquarters in Amaliegade, Copenhagen, where the production rented space and modernized the decor with Italian furniture.
The neighboring house, where the character Cecilie and her husband, Mike, live, is actually located in Vedbæklund in Holte, about 12 kilometers north of Charlottenlund. The exterior shots are filmed at a minimalist villa which is available for rent at a significant monthly cost. Interior scenes from the couple’s home are filmed in a studio with rented or borrowed decor.
Finally, Cecilie’s office is located at the Playhouse on Sankt Annæ Plads in Copenhagen. The location by the water, reflecting Papirøen, and the sloping steel beams are characteristic of the Playhouse, which was inaugurated in 2008. Cecilie is seen running on Strandvejen, from around the Knud Rasmussen statue south of Klampenborg towards Charlottenlund.
