Burger King’s Danish operations continue to struggle, reporting a loss of 21.1 million kroner in 2024, marking the seventh consecutive year of financial deficit in the country. Despite this, the company remains committed to expanding its presence in Denmark with plans to open new restaurants.
The 2024 financial statement reveals that while Burger King’s gross profit increased to 111.6 million kroner from 109.2 million kroner the previous year, increased expenses in areas such as depreciation, write-downs, and personnel led to the overall loss.
The company characterized 2024 as the first year with a “relatively stable economic environment” since the beginning of the corona epidemic. Management anticipates an improvement in operating profit this year, although specific figures were not provided.
Burger King opened its first Danish store in Copenhagen in 1977 and has since grown to over 50 locations. Despite its challenges in Denmark, Burger King remains the second-largest burger chain globally, with over 18,000 restaurants worldwide. The company was founded in the USA in 1954.
