Thousands of counterfeit Labubu dolls were seized by Danish Customs in July due to intellectual property rights violations. The dolls were discovered during an inspection of four shipments.
Over 3,000 of the counterfeit monster-like dolls were found. The Ministry of Taxation released a statement confirming the seizure.
The Labubu doll has gained popularity as a collector’s item recently, becoming viral on social media platforms like TikTok. Celebrities such as Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, and Dua Lipa have been seen with the dolls.
The doll is characterized by its small, furry appearance, large eyes, pointed ears, and a devilish smile revealing sharp teeth.
Minister of Taxation Rasmus Stoklund expressed satisfaction that the counterfeit dolls were intercepted. He emphasized the importance of protecting intellectual property rights and safeguarding consumers from potentially unsafe or substandard products. Stoklund noted that consumers risk disappointment when receiving counterfeit goods due to uncertainties about quality and product safety standards.
