The Danish People’s Party (DF) is demanding the resignation of Christina Egelund (M), the Minister for Higher Education and Science, following concerns about the increasing admission of foreign students at Roskilde University (RUC). DF’s spokesperson on foreigners, Mikkel Bjørn, stated that Egelund cannot credibly hold her position while seemingly endorsing a development that undermines the government’s narrative of responsible immigration policy.
The controversy stems from RUC’s strategy to improve its finances by admitting a larger number of international students. According to reports, internal documents from RUC suggest that this strategy comes at the cost of academic quality.
The Agency for Higher Education and Science, which operates under Egelund’s ministry, has reportedly acknowledged this development “positively.” This acknowledgment has fueled DF’s criticism and their call for Egelund’s resignation.
