Police intervened at a bourgeois convention in Fredericia to remove a Social Democratic party banner that encouraged drivers to honk if they saw a “blue prime minister candidate.” Authorities deemed the banner illegal due to restrictions on encouraging unnecessary honking.
The incident occurred at the entrance to Messe C in Fredericia, where Liberal Alliance, Danmarksdemokraterne, Dansk Folkeparti and De Konservative held their convention. The banner’s message alluded to the absence of a declared prime minister candidate from the “blue” political bloc, as only current Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S) has announced her candidacy for the upcoming parliamentary election.
Rune Nielsen, duty officer at the Southeast Jutland Police, confirmed that the police contacted the truck driver and the company responsible for the banner, instructing them to remove it. The police emphasized that encouraging honking is only permitted when there is a genuine safety hazard in traffic.
By the time police made contact, the truck had already left Fredericia. The Social Democratic party, in a written statement, acknowledged the truck’s presence and stated that it had been moved to a garage after being parked at the main entrance. They also added, that people can move safely in traffic around the convention.
