Danish Food Agency Lifts Marketing Ban on Polar Salmon Hjerting Laks

The Danish Food Agency has lifted the marketing ban on Polar Salmon Hjerting Laks, an Esbjerg-based fish factory, after the company ceased production of the products that led to the ban.

The company received the marketing ban after multiple product recalls due to listeria findings. The ban was lifted because the fish factory no longer produces the products in question.

CEO Jesper Kelly Innes stated in a press release that food safety and trust in their products always come first, making the decision necessary. The company has stopped the production of uncontrolled production fish, such as cold-smoked salmon and halibut, and will focus on fish production where bacteria growth can be controlled through salting, smoking, and temperature control.

The Danish Food Agency has linked the company to at least 27 cases of illness and four deaths. Listeria can be found in various foods, including meat, vegetables, unpasteurized dairy products, and processed fish products, and can cause fever, diarrhea, and vomiting.
