Danish national team players express frustration after goalless draw against Scotland

The Danish national team is disappointed following a 0-0 draw against Scotland in their World Cup qualification opener, despite dominating the match. Players voiced concerns about the team’s over-reliance on ineffective crosses and the lack of variation in their attacking play.

Several players highlighted the need for improvement before their upcoming match against Greece. The team struggled to create clear-cut chances against a compact Scottish defense, leading to frustration on the pitch.

Center-back Joachim Andersen pointed out the predictability of Denmark’s crosses, making it easy for Scotland to defend. He emphasized the need for more variation in their attacking approach.

Joakim Mæhle echoed Andersen’s sentiments, observing that the team repeatedly resorted to the same tactics in the second half. He noted that Scotland was comfortable defending the constant stream of crosses into the box.

Statistics revealed that only 11 out of 47 crosses found a Danish teammate. National coach Brian Riemer acknowledged the need to improve the quality of the crosses and suggested that players should aim to deliver them from closer positions.

Riemer explained that the wide positioning of the crosses made it easier for the Scottish defense to clear the ball, preventing Denmark from becoming truly dangerous. He lamented the team’s tendency to opt for crosses instead of combining effectively in wide areas.

Andersen suggested that the absence of Christian Eriksen was felt, particularly his ability to unlock defenses with incisive passes. The team missed his creativity and vision in the final third.

Despite the attacking woes, goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel found positives in the team’s defensive performance. He highlighted their solid defensive display and clean sheet, noting that they prevented Scotland from creating any significant chances.

Schmeichel emphasized the importance of scoring to force the opposition to take more risks. He believes that a goal could have changed the dynamic of the match.

Denmark will now focus on their upcoming World Cup qualification match against Greece. The team will aim to address their attacking deficiencies and secure a positive result on the road.
