The southernmost eight kilometers of the East Jutland Motorway expansion around Aarhus are set to open in the fall, a year ahead of schedule. This will provide motorists with three lanes in each direction on this stretch of the E45.
The Danish Road Directorate attributes the early opening to favorable weather conditions and the successful compression of the road work timeline. While acknowledging the recent inconveniences experienced by road users, the Directorate expresses hope for their understanding, given the accelerated completion.
Transport Minister Thomas Danielsen welcomes the early opening, emphasizing the positive impact on the daily commutes of thousands of motorists and professional drivers. He commended the Danish Road Directorate for its progress and minimal disruptions during the project.
The remaining expansion of the motorway to six lanes around Aarhus and from Vejle to Skanderborg is progressing as planned, with an expected completion date before the end of 2026. The final layer of asphalt is scheduled to be laid in 2027.
