Estonian Minister of Climate, Kristen Michal, sparked conversation during a recent visit to Copenhagen when he made a remark about the Danish monarchy. While overlooking Amalienborg Palace, the royal residence, from a meeting room, Michal reportedly pointed towards the palace and made a comment about “looking down” on the Danish King.
The context of Michal’s statement remains somewhat unclear. The remark was made during what appeared to be a break from official meetings and seemed to be delivered in a lighthearted manner.
The comment comes at a time when monarchies across Europe are facing increasing scrutiny.
