The Danish U21 national team suffered a 0-1 defeat to Norway in a test match in Vejle on Thursday evening, marking a disappointing start to their European Championship qualification preparations. The lone goal came shortly after halftime, securing the victory for the Norwegians.
Lars Knudsen, making his debut as U21 national coach, witnessed a strong first-half performance from his team. However, a series of substitutions at halftime led to a decline in the team’s level of play.
Denmark showcased promising movement and attacking threat in the first half, deploying a 3-4-3 formation with William Clem of FC Copenhagen alternating between central defense and midfield. Thomas Jørgensen had a goal disallowed after 20 minutes due to a handball.
The second half saw numerous substitutions on both sides, with Norway gaining the upper hand. A misplaced pass from August Priske allowed Sverre Nypan to capitalize and score the decisive goal from 15 meters past William Lykke, who had replaced Theo Sander in goal.
Denmark struggled to regain momentum, with only Chido Obi managing to force a save from the Norwegian goalkeeper in the final quarter of the match.
Despite the defeat, the focus now shifts to the upcoming European Championship qualification campaign, which begins on Tuesday with an away match against Wales. Denmark’s group also includes Belgium, Austria, and Belarus.
