7-Eleven Denmark is withdrawing as the main sponsor of Copenhagen Pride due to disagreements over collaboration terms. According to CEO Jesper Østergaard, while the company will no longer be the primary sponsor, Pride bracelets will still be sold in their stores, with proceeds benefiting Copenhagen Pride.
The decision follows a year after Copenhagen Pride faced a significant loss of sponsors, nearly half, due to the parade’s announcement that it would inquire about sponsors’ involvement and interests in Israel and Palestine. Companies like Novo Nordisk, Mærsk, Google Denmark, Danske Bank, and DHL withdrew their support last year and are not sponsoring the event this year either.
The previous year’s sponsor departures led to the resignation of the then-chairperson, Lars Henriksen, who was succeeded by Benjamin Hansen. Hansen has stated that efforts to rebuild trust with sponsors are ongoing.
In addition to the loss of sponsors, the 2024 Copenhagen Pride parade experienced a decrease in participants, with approximately 15,000 attendees compared to 35,000 the previous year.
