Rejsekort iPhone app users can now select “While Using the App” for location access, aligning with the app’s actual data collection practices. This update addresses privacy concerns raised by data experts and the Danish Data Protection Agency.
Previously, the app only offered an “Always” location access setting, which prompted worries that the app had continuous access to user location data. Rejsekort og Rejseplan A/S emphasizes that data was never accessed when the app was not in use, and this update codifies that practice.
The company initially stated it was “not possible” to offer a “While Using the App” option in spring 2024, citing concerns about ensuring ticket validity if users mistakenly closed the app. However, the app’s supplier has now recoded the settings to resolve this issue.
The new setting is available starting Thursday and has been tested by 135,000 iPhone users. Android users have always had the option to limit location access. Rejsekort og Rejseplan A/S has not disclosed the cost of recoding the app.
