A former midwife has had her sanction eased by the Eastern High Court, limiting her ban on assisting with home births to two years. The ruling modifies a previous judgment that had deprived her of this right indefinitely.
The case revolves around a violation of authorization laws related to her handling of a home birth in Birkerød in 2019. The court upheld the district court’s decision to fine her 20,000 kroner.
According to her lawyer, Asser Gregersen, the 46-year-old woman maintains her innocence and hopes to appeal the decision to the Supreme Court, though this requires approval from the Appeals Permission Board. The original ruling against the midwife was made in 2023 by the Court in Lyngby, which initially stated the deprivation of her right to practice should continue until further notice.
