A 61-year-old woman confessed in court on Wednesday to embezzling nearly one million kroner from a sports association in Tilst, where she served as treasurer. The East Jutland Police revealed that the woman admitted to the crime, driven by her son’s mounting debt within a criminal milieu.
The mother repeatedly received requests for money from her 27-year-old son, who sought to escape his financial obligations. Between May 2023 and October 2024, she transferred a total of 962,150 kroner from the sports association’s accounts to private accounts.
During the court hearing, the woman stated that she felt pressured by her son.
The court sentenced the woman to one year in prison, with only 30 days to be served unconditionally. The remaining portion of the sentence is conditional, contingent upon her completion of community service.
The son was previously sentenced in July to seven and a half years in prison for his involvement in a major drug case. He was also found guilty of receiving stolen goods, specifically the money embezzled from the sports association.
