Two distinct yet complementary exhibitions by Scandinavian artists Nanna Abell and Sara-Vide Ericson are currently on display at Gammel Strand in Copenhagen until August 31, 2025. The exhibitions showcase a focus on younger Scandinavian artists poised for a major breakthrough.

Nanna Abell’s exhibition features the use of cheese puffs as sculptural material. The exhibition plays with the space, incorporating existing elements of the building, such as climate control systems, into the artwork. The artist strategically places objects like plastic shoes and flip-flops in unexpected locations, prompting viewers to question their purpose and the boundaries of the exhibition space. The artist’s work involves subtle interventions that blur the line between art object and environment, creating a sensory and narrative game with surfaces and materials.

Sara-Vide Ericson’s exhibition showcases intense, figurative paintings inspired by the artist’s upbringing in Northern Sweden. Ericson’s work involves a private mythological universe, where she develops her own rituals, which she first photographs and then recreates as intense, figurative painting. The paintings explore themes of body and landscape, employing bold brushwork and materials like straw and soil. The artist’s pieces evoke a sense of romanticism and draw inspiration from artists such as Anselm Kiefer, Mamma Andersson, and Peter Doig.
