Former handball star Bojana Popovic has been named the assistant coach for the Danish women’s national handball team, joining head coach Helle Thomsen. Popovic, a celebrated player for Viborg HK and Slagelse, and former head coach for Montenegro, will begin her duties immediately.
The Danish Handball Federation (DanskHåndbold) announced that Popovic’s contract extends until December 31, 2026. She will combine her new role with her existing position as head coach for ŽRK Budućnost in Montenegro.
Helle Thomsen expressed her enthusiasm about the appointment. Thomsen highlighted Popovic’s commitment and temperament as valuable assets to the team.
Thomsen also noted the energy and passion Popovic brings from her experience in Eastern European handball. She anticipates that this will positively influence the Scandinavian culture of the team.
