Denmark is bracing for a day of widespread rain on Thursday, with potential for heavy downpours and thunderstorms in several areas. The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) has issued risk reports for much of the country, excluding the northeastern and eastern parts of Zealand.
The unstable atmospheric conditions are due to a combination of warm air moving north and an approaching cold front. Meteorologist Lars Henriksen at DMI explains that this combination is conducive to shower formation throughout the country.
While pinpointing the exact location of the heaviest rainfall remains challenging, DMI forecasts indicate the possibility of torrential downpours and thunderstorms in many locations.
Bornholm is currently under a DMI warning, with expectations of 25 to 35 millimeters of rain within six hours. Risk reports are in effect from Thursday afternoon through the evening.
The weather could impact outdoor events in Copenhagen, including Ed Sheeran’s concert in Øresundsparken and the DHL Stafetten fun run in Fælledparken. DMI is closely monitoring the situation, with meteorologist Lars Henriksen noting that the Ed Sheeran concert could potentially experience rain.
DMI emphasizes that even slight shifts in the weather system could alter the intensity of rainfall in eastern regions. The speed at which the showers move across the country also remains uncertain.
