Varde Municipality Erects Temporary Warning Signs at Unguarded Railway Crossings

Following a recent accident between a train and a tractor, Varde Municipality has begun installing temporary warning signs at unguarded railway crossings along the Vestbanen (West Line). The initiative aims to enhance safety for road users crossing the railway.

The installation of the signs commenced on Thursday, fulfilling the municipality’s promise made on Tuesday, the day of the accident. The signs are being placed at crossings without barriers between Varde Station and Nørre Nebel Station.

Hans Peter Due, acting director of Planning and Technology in Varde Municipality, emphasized the urgency of the situation. The accident near Henne Stationsby underscored the dangers posed by unguarded crossings.

The municipality is in communication with Banedanmark (the Danish railway infrastructure manager), Vestbanen, and other relevant authorities. While the municipality lacks the authority to install barriers, it is taking steps to improve signage to ensure road users are aware of approaching railway crossings.

The temporary signs are yellow and feature the word “Beware!” along with a train image within a red warning triangle. These signs aim to provide a clear warning to drivers and pedestrians as they approach unguarded railway crossings.
