Nuuk Airport in Greenland is set to resume international traffic on Thursday following a temporary security suspension, thanks to the assistance of a team of certified security personnel from two Danish airports. The airport had been closed to international travelers on Wednesday.
The Greenlandic media Sermitsiaq reported the arrival of the Danish employees, who are trained in security control, in Nuuk.
The Danish Transport Authority had temporarily suspended security control for international travelers at Nuuk Airport on Tuesday. The suspension was due to the fact that the further training of the airport’s employees in screening travelers to foreign countries did not meet all the necessary requirements.
Greenland Airports acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the closure. “We know that Wednesday’s closure of Security in Nuuk has been a great inconvenience for both airlines and the affected travelers. We deeply regret this, and we are working intensively to ensure a good experience at our airport,” the airport stated on Facebook on Wednesday.
