Kasper Elsvad, Clara Tauson’s boyfriend and coach, acknowledges the skepticism he faced from the tennis world following their coaching collaboration last fall. Despite the initial doubts, Tauson’s recent success suggests their partnership is proving effective.
Elsvad, a 26-year-old former club coach in Denmark, recognized the prevailing sentiment among tennis professionals who typically favor experienced, established coaches. He notes that many expected Tauson to choose a well-known figure with extensive tour experience.
However, Elsvad believed he could offer unique support to Tauson, especially since he was available to travel with her. Having been with Tauson on the WTA Tour for over six months, Elsvad feels he has adjusted well, despite the elevated level of competition compared to his previous coaching role.
Tauson’s performance over the past six months has been strong. She secured a title in Auckland and reached the final of the WTA 1000 tournament in Dubai, achieving a career-high ranking within the world’s top 25.
Elsvad notes that things have been working “superbly” for them. Tauson recently won her first-round match against Magda Linette at the French Open. She is scheduled to face Arantxa Rus in the second round, with the match expected to begin between 1:30 PM and 2:30 PM.
